The Mark Twain Library is delighted to present the 49th Annual Mark Twain Library Art Exhibition from December 5-12, 2021.
The Art Show is presented both as a hanging exhibition in the library founded by Mark Twain himself, and also as an online gallery for those who cannot attend in person.
Continuing a tradition so close and dear to the community of Redding during the holiday season, the exhibit will kick off with a preview reception on Saturday evening, December 4 with adherence to health and social distancing guidelines. “The art show is such a festive tradition in our community, not only for the library, but also for contributing artists and art collectors,” said Art Show Chair Angie. Kane. “We are always proud and amazed to see works of art presented by our own local artists, and we continue to be excited about the work of new contributors and artists from further afield. “
The Mark Twain Library Art Show is a juried exhibition that attracts the talent of over 100 local and regional artists and showcases their astonishing works to the library. The juror for this year’s selection is acclaimed painter Jennifer Gennari who specializes in the art of bringing animals to life through her paintings.
The juror of the awards is the painter Charles Yoder, known for his large-scale landscapes. Building on the success of the online gallery last year, we will once again be showcasing the works in a virtual gallery, where they can be viewed and purchased online.
This virtual gallery will be open to the public on Sunday, December 5, 2021 and can be viewed from anywhere in the country. For those visiting in person, our library gallery will stand amidst shelves of books that began with the personal donation of Mark Twain, as has been done over the past 49 years. “For the Saturday night preview reception, we are creating a safe indoor environment for the gallery and silent auction, while providing a festive and fun atmosphere outside under heated tents,” said Betsy Higgins , administrative co-chair of the art exhibition. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate art and artists together this year while respecting the guidelines of the state and city Covid,” she added. “Once again, we are transforming the library into a great gallery for art lovers to see up close, meet the artists and enjoy the evening. “
The art exhibit serves as a vital fundraiser, directly supporting the operating budget of the library, which has been a vibrant community center in Redding for over a century. All artwork is for sale and the library keeps a 35% commission on sales. The launch event also includes the beloved and vibrant Silent Auction, which features electronic auctions on artwork donated by numerous artists.
Access to the Silent Auction is restricted to Ticket Holders and Preview Reception Sponsors. Long-time sponsor of the art show, Manhattan Beer Distributors / New York Wine & Spirits is the main sponsor of this year’s art show.
