MERIDEN – Local artists are expected to showcase their work at the 97th Annual Fall Art Show at Galley 53 next month.
“I’m always excited for it,” said Sandy Goodyear, director of Gallery 53. “You never see the same thing every year. People are so creative.
Artists from across the region brought their work to Gallery 53 over the weekend.
Meriden artist Katherine Desbress submitted two works of acrylic art. Desbress has put on about two shows a year for the past few years.
“I’m not a professional, but I love to do art, it makes me happy,” she said. “If my art makes at least one person smile, that’s enough for me. “
Desbress described one room – “Autumn Reblooming” – like an iris in your garden that blooms for a short period of time.
The accountant said she enjoys using her free time to create art in order to have some balance in her life.
Each artist was allowed to submit up to two pieces. Mediums included painting, photography, drawing, and digital compositions featuring a mix of subjects, colors and techniques.
“When we display art, I like to tell a story,” Goodyear said. “It’s a process. You have to take into account the size of the painting and the colors. You want things to be compatible.
On Saturday morning, the gallery had received works from more than 50 artists.
Entries will be judged by award-winning Connecticut artist Karen Israel. Eight winners will receive cash prizes.
