Benalla Art Gallery is calling for applications from North East Victorian artists and craftspeople to exhibit in its gallery shop.
The gallery’s boutique exhibitions are a new initiative, having started in December 2021 with Pauline Fraser’s Earth and Sky Collection, which coincided with the major exhibition of the local artist at the Simpson Gallery, Contemplating nature.
The monthly exhibitions of the gallery shop will be presented in two glass windows placed prominently at the reception, and will be scheduled based on the applications received.
Benalla Art Gallery director Eric Nash said the gallery has seen a tremendous response to the current exhibition of Pauline Fraser’s gallery shop.
“We have found that visitors have reacted very positively to this new initiative, and many have enthusiastically taken the opportunity to ‘collect a piece of Benalla’ during their visit,” said Mr. Nash.
Mr Nash also confirmed that the gallery would prioritize gallery exhibition requests “by artists and artisans who are native to or reside in North East Victoria in order to further promote and support local and regional creative practices. “.
“There are a number of benefits to exhibiting in the gallery shop for local and regional artists, including the ability to earn revenue from sales and promotion through the Benalla Art Gallery website, monthly e-news, dedicated press releases and social media channels. ,” He continued.
The showcase space is best suited for small wares, including jewelry, ceramics, small sculpture, textiles, and prints.

Applications will be assessed on quality, price, demographic appeal, and value to Benalla Art Gallery’s broader programming, with applicants notified by email of the outcome of the review process and the months when their works will be displayed in the gallery shop.
