Island-wide juried art exhibit at the Firehouse Gallery


The public is invited to attend the 37th Annual Waimea Arts Council Jury Art Exhibition at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea.

The exhibition runs until November 28 and features works by local artists selected by this year’s judges, Johanna Wiseman and Shirley Spencer, local artists and the owners of Akamai Art Supply in Kona.

They selected 49 pieces from the 64 that were presented for the exhibition.

They awarded cash prizes for: first place, Terry Bensch, “Irruptions and Interruptions”; second place, Laurel Oglesby, “L’Auku’u”; third place, Barbara Schaefer, “Sea Dreams”; and three Honorable Mention Awards: Han Choi, “Eastside Morning Seascape”; Laurel Oglesby, “The Jacaranda”; Chris Kutler, “Kohala (after Monet)”.

The judges also presented seven Jurors Choice gift certificate awards to Akamai Art Supply to the following artists: Parker Mason, Irina V. Place, Barbarich (Peter) Piergiorgio, Ilmar Reinvald. Kathy Sprinkle, Lorie Taylor, and J. Jay West.

Several of the artists selected for this exhibition will be at the gallery to meet and welcome visitors. The opening hours of the gallery are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Artists donate a percentage of all sales to support Waimea Arts Council community projects.

The Waimea Arts Council, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization located at 67-1201 Mamalahoa Hwy, is the island’s oldest arts group for supporters of the arts, and the Firehouse Gallery is its most successful program. . Masks are mandatory.
