Major in Graphic Art | Taylor University

Communicate visually

The Graphic Art major is for students who enjoy expressing ideas visually and wish to pursue a career in commercial art, whether in graphic design, digital art, illustration, animation or of photography. Whether in print or online, strong and effective visual communicators are always in demand.

Taylor’s art classes require experimentation and hands-on work to put artistic principles and theories into practice. You will create a professional portfolio while learning to use art to effectively communicate messages, stories and ideas. As a Graphic Arts major, you will also learn fundamental artistic skills and develop your artistic voice, while learning to harness it to communicate thoughts and ideas.

All art students take classes as part of a basic art program. These courses give you a comprehensive view of art, building a solid foundation in drawing, 2D art, 3D design, art history, and integrating faith for the rest of the art curriculum. You will produce work for clients, develop expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and apply visual communication principles to project-based courses. Seniors showcase their compiled portfolios alongside their best works at an exhibition at the Metcalf Gallery.
