AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR / KCIT) – The Southern Light Gallery returns to Amarillo College for its first exhibition of the year, featuring an exhibition of photographs featuring plants from Texas.
According to a college press release, the exhibit, titled “Flora Domestica,” features the work of photographer Steve Goff. The exhibit is currently on display on the first floor of the Ware Student Commons on the college’s Washington Street campus.
According to the statement, Goff is a professor of photography at Odessa College and has previously been nominated for the Texas State Artist Award.
Goff’s images feature flora found in his own garden, located in Odessa, photographing them against home-made backgrounds. According to the release, Goff created the images with a cell phone camera and an app called Hipstamatic.
“Plants are never taken from our garden and photographed in a studio,” Goff said in the release. “They stay connected to our Mother Earth… I really like the beautiful stylized look, the selected focus and the soft tones in the app of my chosen camera and the selection of lenses and films The combination reflects my connection and my love for 19e photograph of the century.
