Doors to the world open with the opening of a photo exhibit by local artist Patricia San Pedro in May at Gally by Art Labbe 2522 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables (305-319-0190). The “Discover Your Door” exhibition, with opening parties on May 12, 13 and 14, from 6 to 9 p.m., will continue until May 23.
San Pedro is a lover of life. She is a four-time television producer, author, photographer, marketing/media manager, cancer survivor and environmental activist. San Pedro has spent his whole life traveling the world, camera in hand. Originally from Havana, Cuba, she grew up in Miami Beach, graduated from the University of Miami, lives and works in Coral Gables.
The “Discover Your Door” exhibition will transport you around the world in an instant. From Cuzco, 12,000 feet high in the Peruvian Andes, to the Napali Coast of Kauai in Hawaii. Or open a door in Valparaiso, Chile, and end up on a glorious fall day on a creek in Georgia. Fall in love with a snowy gate in Switzerland and travel to a sunset in Naples.
“These are just a few of the magic pieces in my interactive exhibit on wood and Doorway mixed media photography. Each door will amaze and delight you as you approach and literally open them,” San Pedro said.
All gates and landscapes have been photographed around the world, from Hawaii and California, to Chile, Switzerland, Peru, Florida, Georgia and beyond. The unexpected location of the landscape behind each door is always different from the door frame itself.
“That’s what I call ‘the gift’. It reminds us of how life is filled with surprising beauty and blessings, even in the face of challenges,” she said.
“Every day we walk through the doors. Usually we know what’s on the other side. But sometimes… we are taken by surprise. It’s called life. Crossing certain thresholds can be exciting, thrilling, magical, and then there are those that are sometimes a little scary.
She says the “Discover Your Doorway” exhibit is an invitation to hope.
“The exhibit takes you through metaphorical doors into your life, and no matter how daunting that door may seem, open it and step in with courage, strength, hope, and a desire to discover unexpected gifts and blessings throughout. along the trip. ”
Years ago she faced one of those scary doors when she heard the words “You have cancer.”
“We have all faced real closed doors with the pandemic over the past two years. This year, I ran into a different door, which led me to start my own business again. You know the saying… ‘when one door closes… another opens.’ I guess that can be the motto of this exhibit,” San Pedro said. “My choice has always been to gather strength, cling to faith…and press on full steam ahead. Luckily, eventually, I always discovered the unbridled beauty on the other side. Especially if I’m surrounded by loved ones and nature.
San Pedro said she hopes her exhibit will connect with the viewer, spark a little hope and joy in the heart, and even childlike wonder.
“Open the doors and discover your own treasures and the splendor of our precious Mother Earth,” she said.
